Cathy and Kaj Hansen moved to Erin (Ospringe to be exact) in 1987. They specialize in organically grown vegetables and eggs from their flock of free-range hens. Their experience with the organic principle “feed the soil and let the soil feed the plants” as well as their years of marketing through Community Shared Agriculture have created a sustainable model for farmers who operate small intensively managed acreages.  In addition, Cathy is also a Canadian Red Seal Chef.

It is the Hansen’s philosophy to live lightly on the land. This is put into practice by growing organically; eating seasonally and helping others do the same, through their CSA. All of this is done with the help and inspiration of their three children Laurel, Emily and Peter and of course, the sisterhood. Bernway Farm is a founding member of Erin’s Homegrown Harvest.
